Norton Public Library
Patrons apply for the right to use the Library and will abide by Library rules. We like our patrons to live within a 30 mile radius of Norton.  New patrons are only allowed to check out 2 items for 2 months. After this time they can check out more. Patrons must agree to pay fines or damages charged to them and give prompt notice of any change of address or phone number. Patrons are responsible for damages done to items other than normal use.
Holidays and Sundays are exempt from fines.
Patrons are allowed to check out 3 DVDs per household. The check out period for DVDs is one week with no renewals. There is a $1.00 per DVD per day fine for late DVDs with a maximum fine of $5.00 for each late DVD.
Patrons are allowed to check out 5 books on one nonfiction subject.
All books, tapes, or CDs are a two week check out period and they will be automatically renewed for another 2 weeks unless item is reserved for another patron.
There are no fines on paperbacks.
If a patron has a $5.00 or more fine they will lose borrowing privileges until the fine is paid down below the $5.00. This includes members of the patron’s family who live in the same household.
Magazines are a two week check out with no renewals. The most current issue cannot be checked out.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) books are usually a three week check out with no renewals.
All patrons 18 and under must have their parent or guardian sign a permission slip at the Library to be able to use the Internet. There is a 30 minute time limit unless no one is waiting.
The Mi-Fi Internet Lending Hot Spot devices, are a collection of the NWKLS, and are rented to the NPL. All patrons wishing to check out the Mi-Fi devices must be 18 years or older, have a valid NPL card, and live within 30 miles of Norton, Ks.  A contract must be signed before the adult patron may take home the device. The patron’s household may enjoy a 7 day check out, with a 30 day wait in between each check out. Cohabiting adults are considered of the same household, even with different last names, and different library card numbers. No renewals. NPL will not keep a reserve list on the Mi-Fi…it will be first-come-first-served. Overdue fees for the device will be $3.00 per day. If not returned immediately after the 7 day check out period, on the written due date, the device will be deactivated. NPL will revoke the patron and household from all future Mi-Fi use.
When returned, the Mi-Fi device must not be dropped into the book drop after hours. It must be brought back to the front desk, and handed to one of the NPL staff, so that the device can be inspected. A sign-in sheet will then  be signed by both the NPL worker and the patron. Should the Mi-Fi device, charging cords, or container become lost, or damaged, replacement fees will be paid by the patron. $100.00 per MiFi device. $10.00 per charging cord, $10.00 per container. Failure to pay this amount will result in suspension of the patron, and patron’s household from use of their NPL accounts, and there will be no future use of the MiFi devices.
Thank you for abiding by the rules of the Norton Public Library. The staff will be happy to answer questions and help in any way. Welcome to the library!
